Whether you are writing an article on- or offline, a Web site, a thesis, a paper, a book or just a mail, you should take care about the links you use.

If the link target becomes unavailable, your readers need to search for the new URL. This problem has never been solved until PermanentLinks.org came up:

1. Before linking to the resource, create a Permanent Link pointing to the resource.
2. Instead of using the real URL, use the Permanent Link returned by this Web site.
3. If the target resource becomes unavailable for whatever reason, you get notified by email.
4. You can then use this information to search for the new location of the resource and fix the link.

Really easy to handle broken links and serve your users, right?

Advantages to DOI Links

• No license fees:
  PermanentLinks.org does not charge you a cent for a creating a Permanent Link.
• Open database:
  While DOI is collecting bibliographic information as well, they decided to close their database.
  Update: the database is open for paying members!
• Everybody can participate:
  While the DOI system is only open to publishers, at PermanentLinks.org, everybody can get a Permanent Link. So you!

Disadvantages to DOI Links

• Currently, Permanent Links only work using the go.permanentlinks.org URL. But we are working on this. If you are interested in integrating PermanentLinks.org in your domain, please contact us.
